Mike Montana
Landscape and Wildlife Photography
Mike's love for the outdoors began early while he was acquiring tracking and outdoor skills from his adventures in the Laurentian Mountain Ranges in Quebec. However, his real enjoyment came from watching animals interact with their environment rather than hunting them, and he has had a lifelong commitment of respect for wildlife and the protection of wildlife habitat.
By 1972, as an optical technician working aside his father, Mike's interest and abilties with film and photography were growing rapidly. In carrying on the tradition of his dad and the world wide recognition of Optimage Ltd. (a film reproduction company) Mike has produced archival film work for the Museum of Paris, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Jewish Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C., as well as the Smithsonian Institute.
Mike combined his love for wildlife and the environment with his love for photography, and his landscape photography flourished when he moved to Calgary in 1982. Captivated by the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and abundant wildlife, Mike became motivated to photograph nature in its pristine state. |
