Peter Thompson
Peter was born in London, England just prior to the Second World War. His childhood years were filled with the sights and sounds of aircraft, tanks, and all the trappings of war which surrounded him and became the subjects of his earliest drawings. His desire to record what he sees is apparent in his current works that often depict man's presence within the landscape.
At age sixteen, Peter entered a seminary to train as a foreign missionary, however, after two years he left the seminary. During his national service with the R.A.F. he continued to study and gained his advance level in art (G.C.E.). Joining Selfridge's department store as a display artist, enabled him to utilize his creative gifts, and he later went on to manage display departments in a number of stores.
In 1967, he and his family immigrated to Calgary, where he took up the position of Assistant Display Director with the Hudson's Bay Company. He worked in the design field of exhibition and fixturing for the retail trade until the late 1980s, when he once again returned to the fine arts. At the urging of a close friend, he enrolled at the Alberta College of Art, where he studied watercolour, life and figure drawing. His work is on show at a number of galleries in Alberta and his work is in many private collections.
